  • The Nest sculpture erected by Hannes Windgate in 2018 at the top of Spring Garden Park is in a time of transition as it nears the end of its maintanence contract with the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC). To ensure broad community participation in collecting input on ideas for the future of The Nest, the MNA is distributing a brief online comment form.

The two upcoming volunteer events (4/25 & 5/22) will feature bamboo replacement at The Nest sculpture. These are the final two events of this sort involving the assistance of the RACC. Community input from the form will be summarized and presented to Portland Parks 4/25, 5/22 (and potentially beyond).

  • Hearing or seeing coyotes? Formally report this to the Portland Urban Coyote Project (@portlandcoyote), a joint community-science project with Portland State University and Bird Alliance of Oregon to help track and better understand human-coyote interactions in our area.

    Tips for Reducing Human-Coyote Conflicts:

Keep pets like small dogs and cats inside and allow only safe access to the outdoors (fenced yards, leashes, or catios). Always keep pets in from dusk to dawn when coyotes are most active.

Never deliberately feed a coyote or other wild mammal.

Securely cover garbage cans and compost bins.

    Remove fallen fruit from yards.

Eliminate opportunities for rats to breed in / around your yard.

Never deliberately approach a coyote and teach children to respect all wildlife from a distance.

To prevent coyotes from entering your yard, consider removing unnecessary brush, installing a motion-sensitive lighting system, or installing a coyote proof fence. To be effective, fences must be at least six feet tall, have no openings greater than four inches, and should extend flush with the ground.

If you do not want coyotes around your home, let them know that they are not welcome. If you see a coyote, shout and make noise, wave your arms.

  • The MNA Bylaws Committee presented a draft set of new bylaws at our general meeting on July 11. The new bylaws are available on our website, including the link below, which gave members a chance to review and discuss them prior to the 10/10/23 vote to adopt them at the annual general meeting. At the September general meeting we discussed and add amendments, prior to the October vote.

    Bylaws effective December 1, 2023

  • Your neighborhood association conducted their annual election of officers and board members at the October 10, 2023 General Meeting. After encouraging Multnomah residents to “throw their hats into the ring” for election as an Officer or Board of Directors member for a one-year term, we filled 12 of the maximum 15 leadership positions. We also voted to adopt our revised Bylaws at this meeting.

  • Transportation Survey

The goal of the survey is to identify community support for transportation related projects in and around the Multnomah neighborhood that could be funded through the upcoming “Fixing Our Streets” ballot measure (for the November 2024 election) as well as through the Oregon State Legislature 2025 Transportation Bill, both of which are currently being drafted. This event is free to the public.

The benefits of the collecting public input include understanding the views of local residents so that the MNA can better advocate for effective use of public transportation funds in our area. They also hope to find individuals in the community passionate about bettering our transportation infrastructure to help the MNA enhance collaboration with PBOT, ODOT, and TriMet to deliver better and safer transportation access to the neighborhood.

  • Now that we are members of SWEC we are collaborating with SWEC leadership to strengthen our racial equity program and support the SWEC priority actions. See the SWEC project materials below for details on what that involves, especially the charter and SW equitable strategies.
