  • We have been meeting regularly together and once a month with the full Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to work through issues related to the MSRV.  The MSRV continues to add new residents and expects to be fully occupied (100 residents) by the end of the year.  The following are issues we addressed during the Oct CAC meeting: Ambassadors program halted, excessively bright SRV lights, noise, and parking.

  • CLICK HERE to view the results of the MNA’s recent public survey gathering input on the future of The Nest sculpture at the top of Spring Garden Park.

From 4/18/24 through 5/22/24 the Multnomah Neighborhood Association (MNA) community events committee collected community input regarding the future of the sculpture artwork, The Nest, at Spring Garden Park. This effort was prompted because the artwork (constructed in 2018 by artist Hannes Wingate) is approaching a transitional time as the contract for the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) to maintain its current woven bamboo form has come to a close, as originally intended. RACC’s final installment of bamboo maintenance was completed 5/22/24. The MNA has prepared thesesurvey results for Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) to consider in planning for the future of The Nest.

Results: 43 participants completed the online survey. The majority wanted to modify the sculpture in some way to improve it (62%), several respondents wanted it removed (7%), and 31% preferred to keep it as is. Written input showed that among those who wanted to modify the sculpture, turning it into a living sculpture without future bamboo replacement or using alternative materials for a more sturdy structure were popular ideas. The community largely enjoys the natural design and interactive nature of the artwork, however quick deterioration of the bamboo and onerous maintenance requirements were frequently mentioned as areas for improvement. Almost half of these respondents have been visiting Spring Garden Park for 6+ years including before the new park was built. Visit the link above for anonymous full survey results and graphs.
